Who Can You Count On?

Next we read another biography and history story of the first black woman that NASA chose to do calculations of mission trips.

The name of this book is Counting on Katherine by Helaine Becker, illustrated by Dow Phumiruk

This book surprised us and we thought it was great because NASA didn’t care what her skin color was, but how bright she was. And she skipped 3 grades in school! And she saved the Apollo 11!

This book is for ages: 6 and older

The character traits she demonstrated were patience, perseverance, helpfulness....and she was smart.

Reasons for 4 stars: You could count on Katherine—she loved to count numbers and she was a joker that she could be counted on. When she wasn’t allowed in a white high school, her family moved to another town and school so she could keep learning. The book was good, with good and colorful pictures, but more information would make it even better for older readers.
